Living Water Evaluation Overview
To provide a holistic understanding of the impact of the 10-year Living Water partnership, a number of evaluation activities have been completed including:
- Overarching National Summary and Recommendations: A high level summary of the programme's outcomes and achievements, along with recommendations for future efforts.
- Five Site Evaluation Reports: A report for each of the Living Water sites provide a detailed account of the actions taken, including restoration efforts, community engagement and capacity-building initiatives. They assess the outcomes and impacts achieved, highlight challenges and lessons, and provide specific recommendations for future efforts.
- Living Water Story - "Eight Living Water Lessons": This digital book distills key lessons from across the programme, offering insights into effective practices and strategies for sustainable environmental management. It serves as a celebration and summary of the mahi of the Living Water partnership.
- Place-Based Engagement and Impact Tool: Developed as a result of the lessons from the partnerships, the tool can be used as a guide to design effective collaboration and engagement for at-place programmmes. This tool uses a simple traffic-light system to assess performance and support continuous improvement. It helps teams self-assess and align their actions with the programme's goals.
The evaluation has been led by independent evaluation experts Will Allen and Viv Sherwood. The evaluation approach has been highly participatory, involving local communities, iwi, farmers, and various stakeholders in both the planning and evaluation processes. This collaborative effort has ensured that the insights gathered reflect the diverse perspectives and experiences of those directly involved in the Living Water partnership.
